UAB Blog

There is so much going on at the moment that doesn't readily fit into any of the other pages that I thought I'd set up a blog spot.

So what's new?

New Gym

Well... we have built a second floor extension incorporating a new gym area, traversing wall, Camping Store and addtioinal Office Space. we are planning a launch event for early june when it is all functional.

We have also opened the new Skate Park beside the go-karting track in Mile End and are keen to get local young people on it, so watch this space for some tuition and youth sessions.

I had a very inspirational meeting with a new member of staff, Martina, yesterday. She wants to take a group to Slovakia for some adventures. And Why not? this comes on the back of our lead instructor for Climbing wanting to run more mountainous adventures and Helen wanting to do more residentials in general. Nest week I am taking the OSG group sailing on the East Coast and am talking to them about doing a sailing trip across the English Channel to France. There is a real enthusiasm here amongst the staff to get young people away from the city to provide new and exciting challenges and broaden their horizons. Watch this space for more news of up-coming residential trips in the next 18 months.

The Bradwell trip was a huge success, have a look at the OSG page for more on that one. This week our partners in crime the LBC surf and skate board shop set up a little retail outlet next to the skate park under the railway arches. So far trade has been good and lots of kids have had a bit of basic tuition to thanks to LBC for setting that one up.

Helens new girls group is doing really well, I'll have to give them a page, and every evening we are getting 10 - 20 young people except in the thunder storms! We are now into Duke of Edinburgh's Award expedition season so everyone is busy assessing and leading expeditions and there is wet and bent equipment hiding in every corner...
