Rapid Response Team
Breaking barriers & Resolving differences!
The Rapid Response Team (RRT) was formed during the summer of 1999 following a number of serious incidents involving young people in the borough. The RRT is a borough wide initiative working with young people who are at risk of exclusion. We believe that many of the conflicts that take place are due to territorial issues and a lifestyle that promotes drugs and anti-social behaviour. We work closely with the police, schools, local youth providers and residents to bring about a positive change in our community.
What's on offer?
The Rapid Response Team works with 13 to 19 year olds and provides a range of programmes to engage them into diversionary activities. These include one to one support, group work, day trips, educational visits, residentials and accredited courses.
Conflict Mediation:
The Rapid Response Team has developed a wealth of knowledge and experience in dealing with conflict and mediation. Our main function is to respond to call-outs, youth disorder and youth conflict in the borough. During the last couple of years we have carried out a number of successful mediation meetings between young people from different parts of the borough. We also respond to requests made by the police to act as support during demonstrations & festivals.
The Youth Mobile Project:
Mobile Youth is a new initiative designed and pioneered by the Rapid Response Team. We are at the cutting edge of youth work, and have equipped the mobile units with the latest technology & gadgets to attract young people. These units have been deployed in identified ‘hot spots' across the borough. It has been highly successful in reducing crime and anti-social behaviour, whilst engaging with the extremely hard to reach. Young people who have taken part in this project have received with a range of accreditation & support. The most recent addition to the fleet of mobile units has been the introduction of the digital multi-media unit, which comprises a fully equipped video and music production suite.
